STARS OF MAGIC
Show time: matinee 2:30pm, evening 7:30pm at the Leo Rich Theatre, Saturday the 27th of September. If you still have tickets to sell get them sold and grab more just because
the
more you sell the better your chance to win the drawing, and remember the
grand prize - a $50.00 gift certificate to Williams Magic. Just remember all
tickets
and money must be turned in by Wed. 24th to Mike Deshalit.
If you missed the meeting and have no posters get them at
Williams Magic and please do your best to hang a few around. John Shryock's
father works very hard to give us these professional quality poster, so yeah,
they look great on your wall at home but they'll help us out a lot better if
they
find their way into store windows etc.... All our efforts will assure a good
turnout.
Also again this year you can purchase advertising on the back of the
show programs for $25.00. Just think of the advertising you can get for such a
nominal fee. There will be at least 800 programs handed out that day and
many people keep them as souvenirs so that means that you small ad keeps working
for you all the time. Wow who'd a thunk. If you are interested contact John Shyrock ASAP.
Old Business
The Daryl lecture was great as usual and from the reaction of the crowd many
people picked up new ideas and tricks. If you don’t do anything of his now,
you
should check out Presto Printo. A real killer trick and lay people freak out
over the specially printed cards.
Due to family complications Gregg Chmara submitted his resignation as
secretary. Alvon Brumfield was suckered / voted in as a replacement. We
wish
all the best for Greggs son and father and hope for a speedy recovery.
Thanks for all
your service Gregg, and we hope you can still make the meetings.
At this meeting we reinstated an activity that has not been done for quite
some time. The SAM has long had a history of initiating applicants who
have
been accepted as new members. This is a ceremony that is quite a production
when done the formal way. Tonight we performed the short form and although
it was a rough draft it did provide two things. The new members learn a few
things about the history of our club and what some things stand for such as
our emblem and the letters M.U.M. and hopefully a sense of fellowship with
the
other members. The unsuspecting victims were John Burros, Jim Davidson and
Stuart Hertzog. Welcome aboard guys.
Next Meeting
The October meeting will be on Oct. 6th. at the Hotel Park Tucson. A board
meeting at 6:30 will be followed by th general meeting at 7:30 We will be
having
our annual CLOSE-UP CONTEST so those of you who plan on performing polish
up those acts and prepare for battle. If your not in it we always need
judges
and feedback people.

At Our Last Meeting
Performances for the evening began with the persuading of past
president Frank Lutz to be the master of ceremonies. Like he had a choice.
First
up was Bill Black , also a past president, who described the post office
building budget to us, all the time using paper to demonstrate his points.
As
always Bill very clever.
Next up was master mentalist Mr. Bruce Martyn. Bruce pulled out several
sheets of paper with all sorts of different company logos on them, maybe
fifty
or so to a sheet. He had someone in the audience just think of a logo that
interested him and while thinking of his chosen logo Bruce would try to read
his mind . It didn't take long for Bruce to draw a picture of the logo which
turned out to be Lenders Bagels.
One of the newest members John Burrows was next with a killer card trick in which he had John Shyrock help him. John
was
given the deck and asked to select a card and lose it. Mr. Burrows
discovered
the identity of the card without ever having touched the deck.
Our current Prez performed what he called the most difficult trick in the
world. Norm had two people each select a card and returned to different
parts of the deck. After a brief shuffles(real of course) Norm produced a
card
that proved to be neither persons card. But not to be alarmed Norm simply
tossed the card in the air and it landed in the middle of the deck held in
his
hand. Not only that but the card above and below it were indeed the two
selections.
Next was Chris Lyons , whom many members have not seen perform lately. But
not to let any unknowing persons down Chris performed a flurious coin
routine so well structured and executed it would make David Roth cr—p. Well
done Chris you still have the touch.
Last years president Frank Lutz got up
and
did a true or false card trick with Mike Deshalit. After having Mike select
a card
and some Dingleesque like madman cuts (all fair I might add) Frank began a
series of true or false questions. Mike seemingly not quite knowing how to
answer still ended up with his card. Baffling.
Our closing performer was the well known world traveler John Shryock.
John did one of his pet routines that is currently printed in his hot selling
lecture notes Slightly Tricky (check it out only 20 bucks) . This routine
is called
ATCCD ,sounds like a drug, well you’ll need drugs to do it. John has a
card
selected and puts it in the center of the deck only to come back to the top.
Once again, this time John cuts the deck in half and mixes face up into face
down.
With the snap of the fingers the cards all straighten out and face the same
way.
Not only that but the selection is the only card facing the wrong way and to
top off everything the deck upon being ribbon spread has changed color from
that of the selection . Hence the name Ambitious Triumphant Color Changing
Deck.
You too can learn this routine along with many other knuckle busting items
that John says "it's not that hard you can do it " from his
book. Look
for it in stores near you.
