Club BBQ
Billie and Mike DeSchalit will be hosting a club-sponsored Picnic on
Saturday, 17 August. All club members, family and guests are welcome!
The Fun starts at 4:00 PM. All food and soft drinks will be provided
by the club. Although not required, side dishes will be accepted and
appreciated. BYOB. There is a short supply of seating, so, you might
want to bring lawn chairs. Definitely bring your swim trunks and a
towel, as the DeSchalits have a pool. Mike wanted to point out that
there will be Tiki Torches. "So, open flames are permitted, unlike
some conventions we have attended!"

Dan Garrett Lecture
On Thursday, 15 August at 7:30 PM, Dan Garrett will be lecturing at
the Hotel Park in the Park Theater. This lecture is co-sponsored lby
SAM #136 and the local IBM club. Dan is a past national SAM president
and a full-time performer.

Next Meeting - the SECOND Monday
Due to the Labor Day holiday, our meeting has been moved to the second
Monday of the month. The next meeting of Assembly 136 will be on
Monday, September 9th, 1996, at Hotel Park Tucson, 5151 E. Grant Road,
at 7:30 PM. There will be a board meeting from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM,
and all members are welcome to attend any and all board functions.
After the meeting, everyone is welcome to walk over to the IHOP for
late-night discussions.
Auction
"One man's junk is another man's treasure". Immediately following the
September meeting we will hold our annual club auction. Check your
closets, drawers, under your bed, and all other places where you store
unused magic, and bring it to the auction. All club members can sell
and purchase magic items at the auction. Non-club members can sell,
but cannot purchase (to give the advantage to the club members). Ten
percent of the sales will go to the club.

At Our Last Meeting
Our last meeting was held on August 5th. Our guests for the evening
were Robby & Doug Sharp, Jeff & Chris Hantla, Carl Molitur, Margi, Mr.
& Mrs. Roy Scheidel, Nicole Piley, Todd Gaines, Tommy Chapa, Ray
Handrich, and Gregg Stvetor.
A date for our annual banquet has been set. Mark your calendars for
Saturday, January 18th. The winners of our Magician of the Year
contests will be announced at this event.
As a reminder, in order to be a member of Assembly #136, you must be
current in your national membership dues. When your renewal notice
comes in the mail from national, please pay it in a timely manner.

Stars of Magic
Our annual magic show is right around the corner. There is a lot to
do, and we need everyone's assistance to make it a success!
Crew Positions
We need lots of help both behind and in front of the curtain. There
are many positions currently available, including stage hands,
spotlight, vendor demonstrators, close-up performers, etc. If you
work during the show, you will get a free T-shirt. If you work in the
lobby before the show and during intermission, you can use any empty
seat to enjoy the show.
Tickets
Tickets are on sale now! Mike DeSchalit has agreed to be the Ticket
Manager. Please coordinate all ticket sales through him.
Tickets are sold through club members, TCC box office, Dillards box
office and Williams' Magic. Club members are only selling tickets to
the evening performance. If any of your prospects want tickets for
the matinee show, please direct them to Williams' Magic, TCC or
Dillards.
The city of Tucson has passed an ordinance that requires the TCC to
charge a "facility usage fee". This fee is based upon the ticket
price, and is paid in addition to the ticket price. An adult ticket
will be $7.50. With the $0.75 facility usage fee, we will have to
collect $8.25 for an adult. Our $5.00 children's ticket will carry a
$0.50 facility usage fee, so we will have to collect $5.50.
Unfortunately, the TCC prints tickets without any mention of the
facility usage fee -- they only mention $7.50 and $5.00. When you get
your tickets to sell from Mike, you will receive pamphlets which you
can give to your prospects that explains this and gives TCC's box
office phone number if the patron has any questions.
If you sell tickets, you must return the money you have collected and
any unsold tickets to Mike on or before Wednesday, September 18th.
In the past few years, approximately 50% of the seats for the evening
performance has been sold by club members. Club ticket sales are
incredibly important to our success. Please help out by getting
tickets from Mike (home phone: 790-0081) and selling them. As an
added incentive, the club is sponsoring a raffle. For every five
tickets that you sell, you will get one raffle ticket. There will be
two $50 Williams' Magic gift certificates to win!
Advertising in the Program
If you want to promote your magic endeavors, you can have your
business card printed on the back page of the show's program. There
are eight slots available, at $30 a piece. This space is available on
a "first come, first served" basis. Contact John Shryock if you want
to advertise in the program.

Parlour Magician of the Year
At the August meeting we held our annual Parlour Magician of the Year
contest. Tom Potter stepped in to emcee the event. The contestants
were John Shryock, Eric Buss, Steve Lee and Bruce Spell. The winner
will be announced at the January banquet.

Good of the Order
Potpourri -- Tim Ayers is performing table magic at Box Seats on
Fridays and Saturdays. Also on weekends, you can find Adrian Van
Vactor at the Olive Garden (Oracle road location). Eric Buss will be
working the Magic Castle at the end of August. Steve Lee will be
performing magic throughout the Summer on Wednesdays at 11:00 AM at
Bookman's (both the Ina and Grant locations) to help get kids to read.
Scribbles the Clown was recently booked at a Chinese Convention. On
August 13, Bill McRea kicked off his bi-monthly "Joker's Wild Show" at
Laffs with T.A. Borrows as the guest performer. It was reported that
John Shryock received an "excellent reaction from the best" in magic
during his lecture at the Day of Magic in Los Angeles this past June.
