March, 1998

The Phoenix Retaliation show ( feb. 4th. was a smash. The club from the north vowed never to again bring to Tucson a mentalism show after the performance they received this time. Performers Norm Marini, Bruce Spell, Eric Buss, Mike DeSchalit, Steve Ehlers, John Shyrock and Mari Lynn did an outstanding job. Bob Bluemle wrote an excellent review in their newsletter praising the show over and over again. By the way that nasty Masked Magician made another appearance at the show and was received with bellowing laughter. Good job quys and lets look forward to the next one.

Mark Newhouse finally received the President's Award for 1997 that we were not able to give him because he missed the banquet. Congratulations Mark it was well deserved.

If you missed the Gaslight show, bummer. Man it was great. Emceed by our local magic aficionado Emory Jr. who kept a smooth pace and had the audience chuckling between acts. The show had killer birds (Adrian), great comedy(Norm), a fanatical jail escape (Erik) and some outrages tap dancing by the dynamic duo, who never fail to put in tears (Brian Moore and Erik Buss). Some audience members said it was the best show yet. Don't miss the next one.

April Theme - Greg Wilson Lecture
For those not in the know Gregg is a fantastic performer, just ask some of the guys who went to the Convention in the Capital. Gregg performs at a rapid pace and will blow you a way with cards, coins, pens you you name it. The lecture will revolve around impromptu magic. Magic that you can do on the spot any time with anything. I have personally seen this lecture and its a doesy, you do not want to miss this.

AT OUR LAST MEETING
The March auction was a great success. John Shryock along with the help of Tom Potter played the part of auctioneers. As usual they had everyone in a bidding war. Alot of good magic stuff changed hands. There are some very good deals to be had and money to be made. The club didn't do to bad either with the 10% donation by all who participated. Party anyone?

Words from the "Big Kahuna"
Greetings my fellow compeers! It's only March, but never too early to start thinking about "Stars of Magic". The executive board will start its' work on the production in the coming months and I would like to ask all of the members to start thinking of how we can sell tickets this year. As you already know are not going to have the advantage of the TCC Box Office Outlets this year because we are moving the show to the Temple of Music and Art, so we will have to sell all the tickets ourselves as a club. I am very confident that we will be able to do this with no problems at all, it'll just take a little effort on the part of every active club member. I do have a couple of creative ideas "Up My Sleeve" (no magic pun intended) about moving large blocks of tickets to the general public. At any rate, this years show will prove not only to be a challenge but also a great success, I'm sure! Also start thinking about how you can volunteer your talents to the show, in the areas of performer, stage crew or even T- shirt sales, we need lots of help to make this show a success.

Thanks for being the great club that you are, see you at the next meeting!!!

Magically Yours,
Michael C. DeSchalit

P.S. If Flash Paper is ignited in the forrest, and there is nobody there to see it, does it blind the heck out of the trees? (Just something to think about, huh?)
